Giving Your Baby an Oatmeal Bath to Soothe Diaper Rash

An oatmeal bath is a great way to treat your childÂ’s diaper rash. Not only is it affordable, but it is a natural way for your baby.

If your baby has diaper rash it can be a rough time for both your baby and the parents. Sure, there are plenty of ointments and cream out there that have been said to clear up diaper rash however, these creams all have nasty chemicals in them. Giving your baby an oatmeal bath is the most natural way and will soothe diaper rash and heal it quickly.

You will first want to measure out one cup of non-flavored oatmeal. Be sure that it’s the regular kind as the flavored oatmeal may cause more harm and sensitivity. Pour the one cup of oatmeal into a food processor and chop it until its powdery. If you have a blender that will work as well. As long as the oatmeal flakes are about the density of confetti, it will still work great.

Next, you will want to pour your powered oatmeal into a warm bath. The oatmeal flakes should instantly disappear and the bath water should turn into a milky white color. Place your child in the bathtub and allow him or her to play in there as they soak for about 15 minutes.

Continue to give your baby an oatmeal bath everyday until the diaper rash has cleared up. The oatmeal bath will not cure it instantly but will definitely relieve your baby of discomfort or pain he may be experiencing. You should start to notice improvement within 2-3 days.

Some parents do not like giving their child oatmeal baths only because it clogs up the drain. There are ways you can help your baby feel better without causing any plumbing problems. To do this you simply need to pour some oatmeal into a sock and tie the end of the sock. The water will still be able to mix with the oatmeal without the clumps ever having to leave the sock. When you are done, simply turn the sock inside out and dump the clumps into the garbage. Some people save old socks just for the purpose of oatmeal baths. This way they have the option of throwing the old sock out when they are done.

Giving your baby an oatmeal bath to help diaper rash is a great idea. The best part about it is that this is a natural way and very affordable. Also, most of time people already have oatmeal in their house so there is no need to make an extra trip out to the store.
